Nelson Mendela, died at age of 95. He was the first black president of South Africa and a hero to most. He was one of the greatest freedom fighters and one of the worlds most respected people. Mendela was involved in the struggle against apartheid. He spoke up and stood up for everyones rights to be heard and seen. He was fighting for change. Mendela was humble throughout his life, even in those tough times. We all know about his life long fight againts apartheid in South Africa, his nearly 29 year imprisonment and him leading his country and its people into democracy.
Unfortunately racism is still alive and well today, xenophobic political parties like SD in Sweden are popping up all over Europe. Sometimes it feels like we are moving backwards. It’s disturbing but not surprising that “Sverige Demokraterna” has so much support these days, somehow we’ve always known there are a lot of closet racists. It is extremely sad that SD is not seen as a party based on racial values. Racism is at their core and they attract racist voters. Most people know this even if they don’t want to admit it. You can compare it to smokers, everyone knows it is bad for your health however they keep lighting that cigarette. It doesn’t matter if I prove to you that what I’m saying is right and SD is wrong, beacuse the problem is you don’t get it that you are a racist or dont want to admit it. It’s everyone’s right to have opinions, even SD and those who support them, but there is a big difference between having an opinion and being racist. Sweden has begun to decline, as has the rest of europe. it’s not because of immigrants. It is because of peoples perceptions and ideas. How can we just sit back and watch it happen when we have come so far?
I shouldn’t have to defend mine or anyone elses rights. I shouldn’t have to sit here and write this in order to convince you how wrong you are. To separate people according to the color of their skin, religion, sexual preference or gender is in my mind completely absurd and impossible to comprehend. To me its a question of hate, ignorance and fear. Time and time again it has been shown that immigrants work hard and contribute to their society, but that doesn’t matter to you because when it comes down to it you are a racist and nothing can change your perception. One thing that has bothered me for a long time is telling those who complain about Sweden to go back to their own country. Don’t they also have a right to have an opinion without being ostricized? It might be good for some of you to travel the world and open your eyes. I am not saying that Sweden needs to accept all immigrants, but neither do we need to completely restrict access. What we do need is educated and capable people regardless of their origins. To blame immigrants for all the problems in a society, or claim that they simply live off the tax dollars of others, is simply wrong. (Source) There are so many examples I would like to bring up, but they will have to wait for another post. Those of you who stand with SD are hypocrites and are applying a double standard. To call immigrants lazy, or muslims terrorists, or homosexuality a disease and claim that they bring down the quality of life in Sweden, this hate needs to stop. Ignorance is what I call it! What happened to everyone beeing equal? We are heading towards a new war, not just over the internet, but more and more hatecrimes are occuring in Sweden and around Europe. I don’t know what else needs to happen for people to open their eyes and learn to love and respect others, but I feel like it has gone to far when one can’t feel safe when walking the streets of Stockholm.
“No one is born hating another person because of the color of his skin, or his background, or his religion. People must learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love, for love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite.” – Nelson Mandela
