One week ago I gave birth to a daughter, my second child. At four days overdue I was scheduled for induction – on Wednesday, March 12th. We called the hospital early in the morning to find out when we were able to head in. We arrived  at 10.00, got settled in and at 12.00 am they checked me and I was dilated 3 cm. Nerves and excitement began to kick in. This was it, we were going to meet our little one soon! At first things were going very slow. My contractions were very mild for most of the day. At 18.00 they gradually increased in frequency and intensity. And at some point they started to occur more regularly.  About 23.00 am true labor began and the contractions became more painful. I spent most of my time in bed, drifting in and out of sleep.  Next morning at 07.30 my water broke and I was dilated 6-7 cm. Labor was now progressing and now we knew that we would soon meet her, despite all the pain I was looking forward to it. Two hours before she was born, I was given epidural, however it failed me – for the second time, although it was given on time! The pain was still there and this made me panic. Thankfully my hubby and the nurses helped me through it, this was probably the scariest part. The time was 10.36 when she was born, they put her on my chest while the nurses did what they had to do, she weighed 4,06 kg and was 52 cm long. Henric cut the cord.

This pregnancy was so different from my first one and so was labor. This time the whole thing went faster, however the contractions were more intensive. Another thing I hadn’t expected was the pain afterwards. I also found it much easier to take care of the baby. Becoming a mother is the most rewarding but also frustrating experience. We are blessed to have a new family member. I was really hoping of going into labor on my own this time and had, as always, worries about being induced. In the end the whole thing went fine and the nurses were great.
